Can You Really Lose Weight with Wu Yi Tea?

Seems too easy, right? Drink a few mugs of wu yi tea and lose weight without effort? I did not believe it either and then something peculiar happened over the holiday season.

You should understand that I am in fairly decent shape and if I gain a little weight, it hits my stomach first. Nobody likes the extra roll(s) of fat on their abs, but it happens. I try to watch what I eat, though I am quite fond of an occasional cheeseburger (okay, and wine, chocolate etc.). I enjoy working out, but I do lapse out of my routine when things get hectic like say, Christmas?

This usually means that by mid-January, my jeans are a little tough to button and I walk around in jogging suits until I shed the unwanted weight. This holiday season was different, thanks to this "too good to be true" weight loss remedy.

Around the beginning of December, a neighbor gave me a box of wu yi tea. She knew I liked tea and she did not (I think she was re-gifting!). Anyway, I thought it was pretty tasty. It is not as grassy tasting as green tea, but a little better for you than black tea. Nice, mild flavor. I certainly was not drinking it for weight loss because that just seemed silly.

I went about my business, shopping, decorating, wrapping, working and of course, eating all the lovely, fattening holiday cuisine such as prime rib, mashed potatoes, cheesecake and of course, eggnog martinis. I did not have any time to work out (nor did I feel like it while eating like that!).

After the craziness of the season was over, I reluctantly went to the scale. I had not noticed my jeans getting tighter, but I hoped my ab exercises in October and November had maybe helped me sort of hold in the fat. Not that it would not be there. Do you have any idea how many calories are in cheesecake? (Oh, and the pecan pie? And the brownies?)

Holy cow! I had lost three pounds! How could I have lost three pounds? I ran to the wu yi tea box and read the label. This particular wu yi tea had wu yi tea extract. I guess wu yi tea does make you lose weight, maybe.

Still not convinced, I did a little test. I stopped using the wu yi tea in my iced tea and went back to just black tea. I did not eat cheesecake (kind of tired of it), nor did I pig out. I ate around the amount of calories one would consume to maintain their current weight. I did not work out.

A month later, the 3 pounds were back. Well, I am back to drinking wu yi tea and I even blew the dust off the treadmill. I like the way I feel when I work out (more energy). I am back to eating a normal, healthy diet. However, I do not really mind the fact that if I do happen to slip in a cheeseburger here or a martini there, my wu yi tea has my back!

Is Green Tea as Effective as Wu Yi Tea?

by Jared Rothe

Green tea and wu yi tea are both very effective in terms of bringing healthy benefits to the human body. Both of these types of tea contain natural substances that help keep illnesses at bay and facilitate in removing toxins and bad cholesterol from the body. After all, all tea products come from the same source: the tealeaves; the variation in the characteristics are present because of the location where they are harvested from.

Nevertheless, these natural substances come in different concentrations in green tea and wu yi tea. The main reason for this is the different fermentation processes that these tealeaves undergo. Green tea is dried and packaged without fermentation. Wu yi tea, on the other hand, is semi-fermented. This means that wu yi undergoes a certain level of fermentation under the sun that of course affects its flavor, aroma and texture, and the concentration of substances in it as well.

Instead of trying to immediately decipher whether green tea is as effective as wu yi, let us try to determine where their differences lie.Tea had been found the aid greatly in naturally keeping our bodies healthy. The substances that can be found in tea include caffeine and tannin. Tannin can be sub categorized into polyphenols, cathecin, and teaflavin/ tearubigin.

Wu yi tea and green tea contain about the same concentration of caffeine. Studies have concluded that caffeine is good for preventing type two diabetes, colon cancer, and parkinsons disease. Caffeine is no longer being scrutinized like it was before. It is actually quite good for you.

For tannin sub groups, there are subtle differences between green tea and wu yi tea. Green tea has greater catechin level than wu yi tea has. Research indicates that catechin may reduce risks for diabetes, stroke, heart failure, and cancer. Catechin may also be considered a natural antibiotic because of it properties that can interrupt the bacterial DNA replication progression. Additionally, catechins may also aid in delaying the aging process.

However, wu yi tea contains higher levels of teaflavin and tearubugin. These make up the natural ability to lower blood cholesterol and prevent dementia from old age.

Wu yi tea contains higher levels of polyphenols than green tea. This antioxidant is helpful in cleansing the body of harmful toxins. This process helps to reduce the risk of cancer, degenerative diseases, diabetes, osteoporosis, and many others.
