If you haven't already added green tea to your daily diet, you should definitely consider doing so. Green tea offers many health benefits. Green organic tea is even better, because it is grown without the use of chemicals, pesticides or fertilizers. This tea is harvested from the camellia sinensis plant, which is the same plant that gives us oolong, black and white tea. The difference between the tea is the level of oxidation it has been through. Black tea has the highest level of oxidation and thus the lowest level of antioxidants. Green tea is steamed shortly after being picked to prevent oxidation. White tea has even less oxidation than green tea.
Green tea contains flavonoid antioxidants, including EGCG. EGCG (epigallocatechin-3 gallate) may help prevent damage from free radicals. Free radicals may cause all kinds of health problems including heart problems and even cancer by oxidizing cells. An antioxidant, as its name suggests, reverses harmful oxidation in the body. That's not all green tea can do, however. It also has antibacterial properties and can even help strengthen the teeth and gums. Green tea may even help you lose weight. This is why there are so many green tea weight loss supplements on the market these days.
Green tea works by increasing the level of thermogenesis, or heat production, in the body. This stimulates the metabolism which works to burn fat and calories. When combined with healthy diet and exercise, green tea can help rev up your weight loss efforts. It is also filling and can help you divert yourself from gorging on unhealthy snacks. When you drink a cup of green tea, you can feel good that not only are you increasing your metabolism, you are nourishing your body with powerful antioxidants.
Preparing green organic tea is easy to do. The process is similar to preparing black tea. The difference is that the water should be hot but not boiling. The tea should only be brewed for two to three minutes. The flavor of green tea is very light and delicate. You can find loose and bagged teas on the market that also contain citrus or other fruits. If you choose to sweeten your tea, raw honey is the healthiest way to go. Stevia is also a good choice as it is a natural herbal sweetener with none of the downsides of sugar.
